Kerala University was one of the first 16 universities in India. It was established in 1937 under the name ‘University of Travancore’. It is also the first university in Kerala to receive an A++ grade from NAAC. Moreover, as per NIRF ranking 2023, the university was ranked 47 with an overall score of 52.75 and ranked 24 in the university category. Majorly, sixteen faculties and forty-one departments comprise the Kerala University campus. The total number of students at the University of Kerala stands at 84,000. Apart from the basic amenities, Kerala University facilities include separate hostels for men and women, technologically advanced laboratories, smart classrooms, and sports facilities, just to name a few!
Out of the wide range of Kerala University courses, the prime focus is on post-graduate programmes, MPhil programmes and doctoral research programmes. Regarding the undergraduate courses, Kerala University has under its domain 10 University College of Teacher Education (UTEC) and 8 University Institute of Technologies (UIT). In UTEC, BEd courses are taught and in UTI’s BSc Computer Science/IT, Electronics/BBA courses are offered. Kerala University admissions are done in two ways. For some courses, a centralised online admission process is followed and for others, admission is done on the basis of entrance examinations.

Of these 60 are arts and science colleges, there are 2 law colleges, 17 engineering colleges, 9 MBA/MCA colleges, 37 teacher training colleges, 4 medical colleges, 4 ayurveda colleges, 2 homoeopathy colleges, one Siddha medical college, 3 dental colleges, 10 nursing colleges, 4 pharmacy colleges, 2 fine arts colleges, and a music college. The university also has a National College of Physical Education affiliated with it.

Kerala University admissions are done both on the basis of entrance exams as well as on the basis of merit. Admissions at Kerala University for the available courses are done under the choice-based credit and semester (CBCS) system. A rank list is prepared thereafter based on which seats are allotted. There is no centralised allotment for management quota. Candidates should contact the colleges to take admission and submit the printout of the application form to the respective colleges. The registration for the same will start after the registration for online centralised admission closes. The Kerala University CSS admission to CSS (Credit and Semester System) courses i.e. PG courses like M.Tech, MBA, M.Phil, M.Sc, MA, MSW and others offered at Kerala University is done on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance test.
