Selection of candidates is done on the basis of performance in the entrance examination and marks in the last qualifying examination. The minimum eligibility criteria is a pass in the relevant Bachelor's degree from a recognized university. Application forms are available in the first week of May.

 The scholarship amount is ₹ 10,000 per year for the first three years of college and university studies for students at the graduation level. Postgraduate students who qualify for the award will get ₹ 20,000 annually.
