Nagaland University was established as a Central University in 1994 by an Act of Parliament passed by the Government of India. Nagaland University, Dimapur is a campus that offers BTech courses. The School of Engineering and Technology at Nagaland University was founded in 2007. It is Nagaland's first School of Engineering, with cutting-edge facilities. 

The academic complex is located in Dimapur, Nagaland, opposite D.C. Court Junction. The institution uses a semester-based course credit system for instruction. Practical and industrial training is prioritized.

The Nagaland University now has four campuses: I Headquarters in Lumami, Zunheboto district; (ii) Kohima Campus in Meriema, Kohima district; (iii) Medziphema Campus (School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development) in Dimapur district; and (iv) a temporary campus in Dimapur district (School of Engineering & Technology). 

In the Management streams, Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Commerce, Engineering & Technology, and Arts, 44 departments offer Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD programs.

Nagaland University is currently associated with 69 colleges around the state of Nagaland.

Nagaland University is associated with 68 institutions, with a total student body of roughly 24,000 students. At the university and college levels, M.A, M.Sc, M.Com, MBA, M.Ed, M.Sc (Agri.), B.Tech, B.Sc (Agri.), LL.B, B.Ed, B.Sc, B.A, B.Com, BBA, BCA, B.Sc (Nursing), and B.Voc. courses are available in 43 subjects.

Nagaland University offers an MBA degree, and the School of Management Studies is located in Kohima, Nagaland (Nu Kohima campus). The School of Management Studies Department of Management Studies was established on October 29, 2007, and the first MBA students were enrolled in 2008.

The AICTE has approved the Master of Business Administration (MBA) as a full-time program two-year (4 semesters). In addition, the School of Management Studies hosts the ZOOMMAX Management Festival every year.
