Rajiv Gandhi University Itanagar courses are offered across 74 streams such as arts, science, computer applications, management, education, social work, business administration, etc. They also offer diploma, postgraduate diploma courses, certificate courses, and lateral entry courses. In addition, RGU Itanagar offers distance learning under 27 departments, seven regional centres, and five schools. 

The formation of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) resulted from converting Arunachal University into a central university.
