IIT Patna admission to major courses such as B.Tech, M.Tech and MSc is based on qualifying for different entrance examinations such as JEE Main and Advanced, GATE and JAM. The BTech admission at IIT Patna is primarily based on JEE Advanced scores. Only the selected candidates in JEE Main will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2023. The JEE Advanced exam will be conducted on May 26, 2024. Further, for MTech admissions, the GATE 2024 exam dates are February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024.  For B.Tech students with financially weak background, Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarships are provided by the institute on merit.

JoSAA has released IIT Patna JEE Advanced cutoff for round 5 on July 17, 2024. IIT Patna cut off for general category is 3557 OR and 4346 CR. Moreover, IIT Patna CSE cutoff for general is 3144 and OBC is 1135.
